Privacy
A house built on discretion extends the same discretion to its readers: an email address, willingly given, and almost nothing else. Effective July 2026.
1 · What the house holds
When you join The Brief, the house holds your email address and your membership record — tier, joining date, and the delivery and reading signals any publication system keeps so that letters arrive and archives open. If you buy a volume or hold a paid membership, payment is processed by Stripe; card details never touch the house's systems and are not visible to it beyond what Stripe reports about a completed transaction.
Writing to the desk places your message in the house's mailbox, where correspondence is treated as private and kept only as long as the matter needs.
2 · What the house does not do
- The list is never rented, never sold, never traded. It is the house's most important asset precisely because it is nobody else's.
- No advertising trackers, no ad pixels, no data brokers, no cross-site profiling.
- No engagement dark patterns — a single unsubscribe click in every letter, honored immediately.
3 · The infrastructure that touches data
The house runs on a deliberately short list of processors, each doing one job:
- Cloudflare — serves atravox.com and provides network security; standard server logs (IP, user agent) exist transiently at the network layer.
- Ghost — operates the publication and the member records at brief.atravox.com; letters are delivered from the house's sending domain.
- Stripe — processes payments under its own privacy terms.
- Google Fonts — serves the site's typefaces, which involves your browser requesting font files from Google's servers (your IP address is visible to Google in that request, as with any content-delivery network). The house may move the typefaces onto its own domain, at which point this disclosure retires.
If aggregate readership measurement is enabled, it is Cloudflare's privacy-first Web Analytics — cookie-less, aggregate, and unable to follow you across the web.
4 · Cookies
atravox.com sets no cookies of its own. brief.atravox.com sets the session cookies a member account requires — signing in is their only purpose.
5 · Your rights
You may unsubscribe from any letter with one click, and you may ask at any time what the house holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted — write to desk@atravox.com from the address in question. Deletion of a member record is honored save for what tax and accounting law require to be kept about completed transactions. Depending on where you live, these rights may carry statutory names (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and kin); the house honors the substance regardless of the name.
6 · Where data lives, and how long
The processors above operate global infrastructure, with primary processing in the United States and Europe. Member records live for the life of the membership and go when you do — unsubscribing removes you from delivery immediately, and deletion requests remove the record itself.
7 · Changes
If this posture changes in any way that matters, members hear about it in a letter before it takes effect — not in a diff quietly published to this page.
